Project: Mersh

I've had the attention span of a gnat lately -- the floor by my bed is littered with barely-started books, theoretical projects around the house haven't even got off the ground, I've got the ingredients to cook many fine dishes but can't be bothered, I haven't started making beer, I've barely been able to pay attention to hockey.

The one thing I have accomplished, thanks to boredom, the recent acquisition of Photoshop Elements, and listening to a couple old hardcore records:

The first ever Post-Pessimist Association t-shirts

Edit: I originally had the "Zazzle" embed link up here - but it covered the links to the right. Just go to the Gallery and you can see the preferred products. If you go into "all products" you see a few other things -- one is a joke, one is a test-run of one of the shirts, and they're being removed. It's just a slow process.

There's three t-shirt versions, the black double-sided one, and then two white single-sided (same design -- but one's a ladies' style ringer) shirts for those who don't want to spend a ton of dough for the black one.

Both styles are inspired, one way or another, by a couple of my all-time favorite hardcore bands. The black style also works in the face of the PPA's official hero.

Thanks to my brother and Anonymous LP for their patient help with my many Photoshop questions.

No For An Answer??

I haven't figured out what the other one is yet, but I'm still thinking about it.

Oh, shit-- it tells at the bottom of the other one, when you click on it: Dee Kroitzen.

NFAA indeed. I actually thought about making it a little contest, but I figured that you'd be the only contestant.

The other one is inspired by a famous band's shirt design, not a record or anything. Actually, I think in the shirt description, I name it, so if you want to cheat...

Whoops, you beat me to it.

You can also, through these two shirts, tell what I've been listening to a lot lately.

I thought about doing one based on those old Swiz t-shirts, but my skills aren't anywhere near the task of trying to recreate that font.

You can't beat '80s hardcore graphics (flyers, logos, pic sleeves, etc) for design inspiration.

How does one become a member of the Post-Pessimist Association? Is there some kind of initiation ceremony like in Skull & Bones? Does one have to get paddled?

Brushback: definitely - I had a blast going through Kill From the Heart, looking for any other inspiration. I knew I wanted to do the NFAA design with Kloucek's face, and since I always wanted one of those Die Kreuzen shirts, those were naturals, but the millions of other possibilities...

Nanuk: I think if you've commented on this blog at some point, you're a member.

Which, uh, means the PPA has about 10 members.

It's very exclusive, Nanuk. But I think I'm on the verge of bringing into the PPA fold the miniature Pakistani couple who work overnight at Dunkin' Donuts. Of course, my Panjabi is zero and their English is sporadic (however, they're well-versed in the donut-and-coffee dialect), so the last time the subject of the PPA was broached (by way of my proudly sported official PPA button), Mr. Miniature Pakistani Man bade me farwell with "YES! YES! WAYNE GRETZKY! GOODBYE!"

Aside from that little misunderstanding, I'm quite sure if I could ever figure out a way to steer them to this blog they'd enjoy it very much.
