Fame and Fortune

Official player of the Post-Pessimist Association Tomáš Klouček is in the news -- the subject of a feature in the Syracuse Post-Standard. Uh, it's all about how he's taking a shitload of penalties this year, but he seems to have a positive attitude about it all, and hey, fame is fame. With fellow Cruncher Jaroslav Balaštík getting called back up, it's only a matter of time for our boy. Semper fi! Put in the orders for your Klouček jerseys now!

Kloucek frickin' hammers people, that's probably where some of the penalties are coming from.

Again, the Wolf Pack aren't playing the Crunch this season, otherwise I could get a good first-hand look at how Tomas is doing.

That's right -- what's the deal now? AHL teams only play teams in their immediate division, is that right? But wait, it doesn't make sense that Hartford would be in the same division as San Antonio. (I checked a map.) Do I have the setup wrong?

The AHL schedule-making is actually pretty fucked up. Yes, the Wolf Pack play the teams in the immediate vicinity, including the ones in their division, numerous times (for the sake of budgeting travel costs). But then they also play home-and-away games against a select few teams in the West, and it always seems like it's the same few teams every year.

For instance, Hartford hasn't played Rochester (NY) or Syracuse (NY) in years. I think the Pack have played the Crunch in Hartford only once in ten years. Hartford doesn't ever play Hamilton, or Manitoba, or Milwaukee, etc. Yet they've played Norfolk, San Antonio, and Houston every damn year for the past 3 or 4 seasons.

I wish the league would mix it up a bit every year, but they don't.
