Our Ohioan Friends

I know a few people from Ohio, and I've always been entertained by this rather odd state. They celebrate a river so polluted it caught fire with a beer; their hockey teams have logos like bugs wearing Civil War uniforms and sharks wearing monocles; and now this.

Two thoughts:

1) While I really am shocked that anyone thought this was remotely appropriate, even for a minute;

2) if a bar were to start offering "Fatwa Fridays" specials, I'd be hard-pressed not to start going regularly.

Why would a shark need a monocle and a top hat to play hockey. This is going to bother me all night.

Our Ohio correspondent could perhaps shed some light on this, but she's been suspiciously silent.

All you keep talkin' about is sports, what do you want me to say?!

Okay, the shark with the monocle was actually a case of the shark being out of place, not the monocle. It was an IHL (I think -- Greg's gonna scold me, I know) reprise of the NHL team we had, the Barons, who had monocles but were completely unsharky (and rather more approximated fey butlers than barons in my opinion -- think Graham Kerr with a monocle and tophat). So, then they brought back the popular team name but this time around instead they were sharks with a monocles and tophats. Needless to say, they didn't stay around very long.

p.s. The "Fatwa Fridays" car ad is just typical of the ill advised advertising that's everywhere here. That said, I'm gonna look for that place when I'm in Columbus next week.
